U.S. Representatives Dan Crenshaw (R-TX-02) and Abigail Spanberger (D-VA-07), both members of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee, have introduced bipartisan legislation aimed at strengthening inspections of outbound traffic from the U.S. to Mexico. The proposed bill seeks to provide U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with additional personnel and resources to target the flow of firearms, illegal money, and other contraband that fuel cartel operations, including fentanyl trafficking.

President Joe Biden signed into law H.R. 1076, the Preventing the Financing of Illegal Synthetic Drugs Act, on Friday, September 13th. The legislation is a bipartisan bill introduced by Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) and passed by both the House and Senate. This landmark legislation aims to combat the financing of illegal synthetic drugs, particularly fentanyl, which has ravaged communities across the United States. It is the first bill signed into law from a Member of Congress representing Texas’ 15th Congressional District in nearly two decades.

Policy change increases housing opportunities for disabled veterans

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recently updated the definition of annual income for veterans seeking services through the HUD-Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program. The update now excludes service-connected disability benefits from income eligibility calculations. Previously, VA disability benefits could cause a veteran to exceed the income threshold for assistance under the HUD-VASH program, negatively impacting disabled veterans who need support.
