Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is now accepting applications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) due to recent severe storms and flooding in Texas. The assistance follows President Donald J. Trump's Major Disaster Declaration, specifically targeting workers and self-employed individuals in Kerr County affected by the weather.
"Texas continues to work around the clock to assist local officials in search and rescue and recovery operations," stated Governor Abbott. "We are also working to ensure that Texans hit hardest by these devastating floods have the resources they need to move forward."
Eligible individuals can apply for benefits online through Unemployment Benefit Services or by calling TWC at (800) 939-6631 from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Applications must be submitted by September 4, 2025.
Applicants should indicate their claims relate to Hill Country flooding damage. Additional counties may be added as officials review disaster damage information reported via the Texas Division of Emergency Management's Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT).
DUA provides unemployment insurance benefits specifically for disaster victims who meet certain criteria, such as exhausting regular unemployment benefits or being unable to work due to disaster-related physical damage.
To receive DUA benefits, applicants must submit required documentation within 21 days of filing their application. This includes proof of employment or self-employment at the time of the disaster.
Proof can be submitted using TWC’s online UI Submission Portal or sent via fax or mail. Visit TWC's website for more information on accessing job search resources and connecting with potential employers through WorkInTexas.com.
