Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County to consider new agreement on bike share initiative

The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) in Houston is considering a new agreement for its bike share initiative. The initiative aims to create a multimodal transportation system that optimizes connections to transit. METRO President and CEO, Tom Lambert, stated that this initiative will empower individuals with more travel choices and support overall transit ridership. The METRO Board of Directors will vote on the new agreement on September 28th.

Houston City Hall unveiled its newly-renovated basement in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 15. The renovation comes more than six years after Hurricane Harvey flooded the basement with up to 20 inches of water. The storm, which caused $125 billion worth of damage, led to the need for extensive repairs in the basement.

Abbott celebrates start of TIRR Memorial Hermann rehabilitation center renovation project

Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently attended a ceremony in Houston to kick off a renovation project at The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) Memorial Hermann Outpatient Rehabilitation – Kirby Glen Center. The facility holds a special place in Abbott's heart as it was where he underwent rehabilitation after a life-changing accident almost four decades ago. In 1984, Abbott's spinal cord was crushed, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. He credits TIRR Memorial Hermann for piecing his life back together and helping him regain independence.


Harris County Commissioners Court approves FY24 budget

Harris County Commissioners Court has approved the fiscal year (FY) 2024 budget, marking the fifth consecutive year of a budget accompanied by a lower tax rate. The budget, totaling $2.4 billion for the county's general fund, was unanimously adopted at the court's recent meeting. The Office of Judge Lina Hidalgo stated that the budget provides the necessary funding for the services required to run such a large and diverse county.

League City, Texas has appointed a new police chief, Cliff Woitena, following the retirement of Gary Ratliff.
