Texas Gov. Greg Abbott promoted Texas’ leading of the nation in the economy, jobs, industry, infrastructure, people and education in his “2022 Report to the People of Texas” released on Feb. 8.

The report is Abbott’s fourth since he took office in 2015 and “is released in interim years when the Texas Legislature does not meet and no formal State of the State address is given,” a press release said.

“We delivered on our promises in the 87th Legislative Sessions to build a healthier, safer, freer and more prosperous future for all,” Abbott said in the report. “Among our top priorities were ensuring Texans have access to high-quality health care, improving public safety, protecting personal liberty, getting Texans back to work, and further unleashing the state’s dynamic, robust economy.”

Texas is the ninth largest economy in the world, the report said. There were 13.1 million jobs at the end of 2021, and Texans produced 9% of the U.S. gross domestic product. Over 230 corporate headquarters came to Texas since 2015.

“‘Made in Texas’ is a powerful global brand. Texans produce 10% of U.S. manufactured goods; Top state for farms, cattle, corn and more; Top state for oil and gas production and for wind-powered generation; No. 1 state for semiconductors and data center growth,” the report said.

Texas leads the nation in a resurging economy because of what it offers, the report said.

“Texas is still the new frontier, a place where opportunity is abundant, where free enterprise flourishes and where dreams, families and jobs grow,” the report said.

Hard work needs to continue for success to be realized, the report said.

“Though the global pandemic has tried our resilience as Texans, trials produce perseverance; perseverance produces character and character, hope,” the report said.
