Congressman Wesley Hunt has introduced the American Dream Protection Act of 2025, a bill aimed at restricting federal funding for states and higher education institutions that offer in-state tuition rates or state-based financial aid to undocumented immigrants.
The proposed legislation seeks to prevent these states and institutions from receiving federal funds if they provide tuition rates equal to or lower than those charged to residents or extend state financial aid benefits to individuals without legal status. Supporters argue this measure would address what they see as an unfair advantage for undocumented immigrants and reinforce adherence to federal immigration laws.
"Illegal aliens have reaped American benefits for too long. It is time for Americans to be put first," the press release stated.
Congressman Hunt provided further comments on the bill: "For years, the American people have footed the bill so that illegal aliens would receive benefits that are intended for U.S. citizens. As leaders and patriots of the America First agenda, we must fight to ensure that no illegal immigrant is gaining any advantage over taxpaying American citizens. The American Dream Protection Act will do just that. No state that gives illegal aliens an unfair advantage in regard to receiving an education will receive federal funds. Too many resources have been allocated to benefiting those who are in our country illegally. Americans will be put first in America."
Wesley Hunt has represented Texas's 38th District in Congress since 2023, after winning elections against Duncan Klussmann in 2022 and Melissa McDonough in 2024, securing over 60 percent of the vote each time. Born in Houston, Texas in 1981, Hunt continues to reside there while serving his constituents.
