Vibrio can be found in coastal waters, including warm, salt water and brackish water, and is transferred to humans through raw or undercooked shellfish. The rise in vibrio infections in the U.S. has been attributed to unusually warm ocean temperatures. In response, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a health advisory on September 1st.
