Congressman Dan Crenshaw (TX-02) has welcomed the Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to grant Texas authority over Class VI underground injection well permitting. The EPA’s move allows Texas to oversee these permits, which are key for carbon capture and storage projects.

Crenshaw, who has advocated for reducing federal oversight in energy innovation, was quoted by the agency. He stated, “cuts down lengthy review times and redundant bureaucratic red tape,” adding that while he does not believe carbon capture should be required, projects driven by market demand should not face delays from overlapping federal processes. He also said this step aligns with his Primacy Certainty Act, aiming to let other states follow Texas’ example as President Trump pursues policies to boost American energy production.

Crenshaw has maintained strong support in his district, winning recent elections by significant margins. In 2024, he defeated Peter Filler with 65.7% of the vote; in 2022, he won against Robin Fulford with 65.9%; in 2020, he beat Sima Ladjevardian with 55.6%; and in 2018, he prevailed over Todd Litton with 52.8%.
