Governor Greg Abbott has announced that more than $8.5 million in Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) grants have been awarded to 35 organizations in Central Texas. The grants, administered by the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC), are expected to support over 4,440 veterans and their families across 30 counties.

“Our veterans represent the strength and resilience of our great state,” said Governor Abbott. “By strengthening these 35 Central Texas organizations, we are creating opportunities that will carry our veterans and their families forward for generations. Texas will always stand with the brave men and women who answered the call to protect our state and our nation.”

TVC Commissioner Mary Dale highlighted the importance of timely support for veterans: “In Central Texas, we see every day how much difference timely support means for veterans and their families. By investing in local partners and organizations, these FVA grants bring strength and stability directly to veterans and their families – turning community care into life-changing impact. These grants and these partnerships both expand our ability to provide vital services to those most deserving.”

The grant awards were presented at the Heroes Resource Center in Cedar Park by Commissioner Dale. Organizations receiving funding include groups focused on housing, financial assistance, mental health counseling, peer support, transportation, legal services, family support services, home modification, rental assistance, mortgage assistance, veteran small business support, elder care services, service dog programs, and Veterans Treatment Courts.

Some recipients include Austin Area Urban League ($350,000 for housing), Bell County ($400,000 for financial assistance), Easter Seals Central Texas Inc. ($500,000 for housing), Hays County ($600,000 combined for financial aid and Veterans Treatment Court), Meals on Wheels and More Inc. ($350,000 for housing), Samaritan Center for Counseling ($500,000 for clinical counseling), Williamson County ($620,000 combined), among others.

Earlier this year in May 2025 Governor Abbott announced a record $46.3 million distributed through over 200 grants to 175 organizations statewide—supporting nearly 40,000 veterans or their dependents.

Since its inception in 2009 through the current grant cycle ending in 2026 more than $359 million has been distributed via over 1,600 FVA grants throughout Texas.

Funding comes mainly from proceeds of specific games offered by the Texas Lottery designated to benefit veteran programs; additional donations can be made during vehicle registration or when obtaining hunting or fishing licenses.
