Governor Greg Abbott has announced the launch of the Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office (TREO), which will operate within the Office of the Governor. The announcement also included the opening of a new TREO website and a Regulation Evaluation Portal.
"The State of Texas operates at the speed of business, and this new Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office will ensure we continue to foster economic opportunity and protect individual liberty,” said Governor Abbott. “By cutting red tape and rooting out unnecessary regulations, we will make state government more responsive and more efficient to serve the people and job creators of Texas.”
The TREO website is intended to provide updates on efforts to reduce regulatory burdens in Texas. It will offer information about eliminating unnecessary rules and supporting economic growth by making the state more attractive for businesses. The site includes a Regulation Evaluation Portal where residents can submit feedback or suggestions regarding government regulations that may require review.
Earlier in October, Governor Abbott appointed Jerome Greener as Director of TREO. This follows legislation signed into law in April, Senate Bill 14, which created TREO. The law tasks TREO with helping state agencies identify outdated or ineffective rules, assessing regulatory costs on the public, and issuing guidelines for how agencies should develop new rules and conduct analyses such as cost and employment impact statements.
