Governor Greg Abbott expressed his delight over the recent achievement of Texas in job creation and workforce participation. In a statement, Governor Abbott highlighted the record-breaking statistics, stating, “Texas works when Texans work, and more Texans are working today than ever before in the history of our great state.”
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the state of Texas has reached historic highs in various aspects of employment:
- The largest labor force ever in the state’s history at 15,143,400.
- A new high for Texans working, including self-employed individuals, at 14,558,800.
- A record-setting total of 14,053,400 jobs after the addition of 18,900 non-farm jobs in January.
- The addition of 263,900 jobs from January 2023 to January 2024.
Governor Abbott also celebrated Texas' consecutive win of Site Selection magazine's Governor's Cup for the 12th year in a row. This recognition solidifies Texas as the top state for attracting the most new and expanded business facility projects in 2023, with 1,254 total projects—more than double the number of the second-ranked state.
The Governor attributed these achievements to Texas' favorable business climate and the exceptional workforce in the state. He emphasized the importance of ongoing investments in education, infrastructure, and workforce development to ensure continued economic growth and prosperity for all Texans.
