Sysco Corporation announced that Antonio "Tony" Garcia, a Forklift Operator from Sysco West Coast Florida, achieved recognition for outstanding performance at the 2023 International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA) National Championship in Orlando, Florida. Tony secured the third position in the forklift category during the national warehouse competition, according to a press release by Sysco Corporation.
The IFDA National Championship is a gathering that honors safety and skill and attracts participants, including drivers and warehouse professionals nationwide. It serves as a platform to exhibit the expertise essential for both truck drivers and warehouse professionals. The competition encompasses various categories such as written exams, obstacle courses, and pre-trip inspections, said Sysco Corporation.
“We are extremely proud of Tony and all of our drivers and warehouse colleagues that participated in the IFDA National Championship this year,” said Daniel Purefoy, Sysco’s Senior Vice President, Chief Supply Chain Officer. “Our frontline colleagues value a commitment to safety and excellence, and they live those values every day. The IFDA stands as the foremost trade association for the food service distribution sector with significant economic influence with a collective annual sales volume surpassing $300 billion. As an integral part of the food service industry's supply chain, IFDA Member Companies ensure daily delivery of food and various products to over one million professional kitchens, as per the IFDA website.
Sysco Corporation also noted an annual kids essay contest that allows children to articulate pride in their parents' accomplishments in the industry. In different age groups ranging from eight to 17 years old, winners secured first, second, and third places.
