Officials at Texas A&M University (TAMU) in College Station have identified the freshman who was found dead at the on-campus Dunn Hall dormitory as Britney Romero of Baytown. TAMU Vice President of Student Affairs Brig. Gen. Joe E. Ramirez Jr. (Ret.) said in an Oct. 15 letter to students, faculty, and staff that Romero was a health major at the time of her death. Ramirez expressed his condolences to Romero's family and friends and assured them of the university's support during this difficult time. The circumstances surrounding Romero's death are still under investigation, but the TAMU Police Department has reported that the young woman allegedly fell from the third floor balcony at Dunn Hall. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.
In response to the tragic incident, TAMU's Division of Student Affairs issued a statement expressing their grief and offering support to students who may be struggling with the news. "The Aggie Family is heartbroken by Sunday’s death of a student on campus," the statement read. "As our thoughts go out to her family and friends, we encourage students who are struggling to reach out to @tamuUHS counseling resources."
TAMU is taking the incident very seriously and has committed to conducting a "thorough and comprehensive" review of the circumstances surrounding Romero's death. The university is urging students who are in need of support to utilize the counseling services available at University Health Services or contact case workers at Student Assistance Services. Additionally, students can download the TELUS Health Support App or reach out to the university's HelpLine for assistance.
Ramirez emphasized the importance of seeking help and coming together as a community to support one another during this difficult time. "We encourage our Aggie community to come together to support one another, as we always do at times like this, while also praying for and supporting Britney’s family and all those grieving this tragic loss," he said.
The university is committed to providing support to students and ensuring their well-being during this challenging time.
