A Houston man felt relief and gratitude last month when a stranger reunited him with his prized possessions.

Houston CBS affiliate KHOU reported that unknown thieves broke into Texas Southern University (TSU) Athletics Department bus driver Dale Chambliss’ apartment and made away with his championship rings.

Two of those rings were eventually spotted by a man performing community service in the southern part of the city, according to the report.

Robyn Segal told the station that it was her friend who came across the rings, one from 2010 and the other from 2015.

"My friend was doing some community service over by Old Spanish Trail … [He] came across something very shiny in the ground,” Segal recalled.

He and Segal were determined to locate the rings’ rightful owner, deducing by their size and weight the jewelry belonged to a man, the report said.

According to KHOU, Segal made a post on its Facebook page with images of the rings.

“Tried to Google – but came up with nothing,” she wrote. “Hopefully this outlet will help me find their rightful owner!”

Segal later updated the post with happier news: She was able to contact Chambliss, who confirmed the rings were his.

“He didn't think he'd ever see them again,” she said. “I am so thankful at least these two rings were found and I get to return them to him.”

KHOU reported that Chambliss has given rides to TSU athletes for nearly 20 years.

Per the station, the two rings are among a set of 10 the Tigers gifted to him.

He hopes to have the other eight returned as “they mean so much to me,” KHOU reported.

While Chambliss, who is known to certain players as “Mr. Dale,” is upset at how someone allegedly stole from him, he also saw a bright side to his ordeal, praising Segal for her kindness.
