A group of Houston residents shared six hours of their time earlier this month, rescuing an orange tabby kitten who had been found on top of a southwest freeway during the day.

The tabby, found on top of a support beam under Highway 90, had been stuck until rescuers secured her and brought her safely to the ground.

“HAPPY ENDING! Our 24-hour injured animal rescue ambulance was called after a kitten was discovered trapped on a freeway beam,” the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) wrote in a tweet Dec. 1.

Among the rescuers officials from the Houston SPCA, Harris County Precinct 1 and a traffic light installer from Third Coast Services LLC teamed up to free the baby feline from the top of the support beam, a report by the Houston Chronicle states.

“Third Coast Services LLC didn’t hesitate to offer help after Sgt. Loewen with @Pct1Constable asked for assistance in reaching the helpless kitten,” the organization added in its tweet.

Rescuers placed a small trap and the tabby eventually made her way inside before being helped back on to the ground, the SPCA said.

"After over six hours of a team effort, she is now safely back on the ground, and in the care of our veterinary staff! The little orange tabby suffered only minor scrapes and bumps,” Houston SPCA wrote in a follow-up tweet.

According to the article, extra assistance came as the traffic light installer working nearby offered up his time to help.

The kitten doesn't have a microchip, the Houston Chronicle reports. If the rightful owner doesn't claim her in the next few days, she will then be placed up for adoption.
