CITGO is providing 5,000 meals to health care workers at Ben Taub Hospital in a show of appreciation for their efforts throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the opening event on Nov. 18, CITGO also delivered more than 500 notes of appreciation that were written by elementary school students from the Alief Independent School District. Health care workers at Ben Taub Hospital and its partners Baylor College of Medicine and Harris Health System have been served meals over several days since the opening to make sure they get the nourishment they need.

"The COVID-19 pandemic provided a shining example of the courage, compassion, dedication and professionalism of our health care workers," CITGO President and CEO Carlos Jordá said in a company release. "They stepped up and saved lives during an unprecedented public health crisis where their own lives were at risk. Our health care workers are real-life superheroes."

Based in Houston, CITGO is deeply committed to investing in the communities it serves. Those investments are made through direct contribution and through the company’s TeamCITGO employee volunteer organization. Team CITCO and its 3,400 employees are grateful for the herculean efforts of the health care workers.

"The pandemic has demanded a lot from all of us as we've worked to keep the community healthy," Dr. James T. McDeavitt, executive vice president and dean of clinical affairs at Baylor College of Medicine said in the release. "I know our staff appreciates this gesture of support and gratitude from CITGO and its employees."
