Fort Bend County Judge KP George is home resting after undergoing surgery last weekend to remove a large kidney stone, according to his Twitter account.

George was rushed to the hospital at about 3 a.m. on Nov. 13 because he was experiencing severe and acute abdominal and stomach pain. He was released sometime Nov. 14 after the kidney stone was successfully removed during surgery.

“Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the excellent staff of Memorial Hermann Sugar Land identified a large kidney stone as the cause of the pain and successfully performed surgery to remove it,” he wrote. “I am deeply thankful to my family, the emergency personnel, and our healthcare staff for supporting me over the last few days. I am in good spirits, ready to get back to work on behalf of all those that call Fort Bend County home, and expected to fully recover in a few days.”

Before being discharged, George posted a photo of himself giving a double thumbs up from his hospital bed at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Sugar Land.

George has served as Fort Bend County Judge since Jan. 1, 2019. He is the county’s top-elected official and presides over the Commissioners Court, which oversees more than 3,000 employees and a $500 million budget. George also serves as the county’s director of the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. He is the first Fort Bend County Judge of South Asian descent.
