Fort Bend County Judge K.P. George, along with Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, recently joined forces to assist West Houston Assistance Ministries (WHAM) at a food and supplies drive for Hurricane Ida victims.

Judge George took to Twitter to offer his emphatic support for those who had been downtrodden by the storm.

“To: Our neighbors in Louisiana and those affected by Hurricane Ida,” he wrote. “Message: We got your back. From: The People of Fort Bend.”

According to CW39, the special drive-thru dispersal took place at WHAM headquarters located at 10501 Meadowglen Lane in Houston in the west central portion of the city.

“We are honored to partner with Fort Bend County Judge KP George to serve those that need help. Hurricane Ida devastated the lives of many people. And, there are still Houston families struggling to overcome hardship brought about by the pandemic. We are committed to doing all we can to help our neighbors recover from these horrific events, ” WHAM CEO Mark Brown said.

After the event, Judge George thanked Turner and the ministry for coming together and helping their neighbors.

“Thank you to @houmayor for your support! When we see our neighbors in need, the first thought is how can we help? Thank you to @WHAMMinistries and @HoustonFoodBank for partnering with us to help those displaced by Hurricane Ida," George tweeted.

The storm has been recognized by Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards as one of the biggest storms to hit the state since 1850, Hurricane Ida made landfall along the state’s southeastern coastline as a category 4 strength storm around noon on Aug. 29, according to CBS News.

The date was eventful as it also happened to mark the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's landfall on the state.
