State Rep. Ana Hernandez (D-Houston) has joined the Democrats in Washington, D.C., who fled Texas to achieve a lack of a quorum for an upcoming vote on election bills.

"Gracias a Dios. I was finally able to make it to Washington, D.C. to join my colleagues," Hernandez said in a Twitter post. "My flight got in just past midnight. As a single working mom, I wasn’t able to travel with the group as I had to take care of some things before I could leave. I’m proud of my colleagues’ hard work in D.C. this week advocating for what we have all been fighting for all session, the fundamental right to vote and to have free and fair elections! The fight continues! Si se puede!"

More than a month after staging a walkout at the end of the 87th Legislative Session, Democratic leaders seek to achieve a lack of a quorum for a vote on election security bills by flying to the nation's capital, said an NBC News article

The Democrats from the Lone Star State hope to have time run out on the special session while they advocate for federal voting legislation, the NBC article said.

State rules require a quorum of two-thirds of lawmakers present, according to an article from The Hill

"TY, @WhipClyburn for taking time to speak to @TexasHDC on the importance of protecting voting rights for disenfranchised communities and sharing your experience as a leader in this movement. That's why we're in D.C.: to ensure the #FreedomToVote 4 all, regardless of race/gender/ability," Hernandez said on Twitter.

She said that they have been attending the National Voting Rights Roundtable hosted by Mi Familia Vota, a national organization working to build political power within Latino and immigrant communities.

"It was great to hear from @DoloresHuerta about the importance of fighting for the fundamental right to vote and equal access to the ballot box for all Americans. #txlege #SiSePuede," Hernandez said in a Twitter post.
