U.S. Rep. Randy Weber (R-Friendswood) opened up on social media to discuss why the GOP recently removed Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) from her position at No. 3 House GOP leader.

Weber said while they thank her for her time and service to the country, it was time for a change in leadership.

"Rep. Cheney was, unfortunately, out-of-step with a majority of the conference. Therefore, it was simply time for a change in leadership. That said, we owe Rep. Cheney a debt of gratitude for stepping up to lead the conference at a difficult time. I wish her only the best. Now, we are moving forward to focus on America’s priorities, and that is a good thing," Weber said in a tweet.

George P. Bush, Texas land commissioner and son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), said he supported her removal as she did not support the Republican Party ideology or former President Donald Trump.

"Republicans deserve leadership that represents the views of their constituents, not their own personal vendettas. We need leaders in Congress that stand up for conservative Republican ideology, and Liz Cheney is not that leader," Bush said in a tweet, as reported by Yahoo! News.

According to NY Daily News, Cheney was ousted after speaking out against Trump, and saying his theory of voter fraud in the 2020 election was unsubstantiated.

“If you want leaders who will enable and spread his destructive lies, I’m not your person,” Cheney told her fellow Republicans, according to leaked excerpts of her remarks, NY Daily News reported. “You have plenty of others to choose from. That will be their legacy.”

House Republicans removed Cheney from her position on May 12, NBC News reported. Cheney was replaced by Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) despite opposition by Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), who does not see her as being conservative enough to take the No. 3 House GOP leader position, NBC News reported.

GOP leaders took less than 20 minutes during a closed-door meeting to oust Cheney, the eldest daughter of former Vice Pres. Dick Cheney, as GOP Conference Chair by voice vote, NY Daily News reported.

Though debates continue about the possibility of voter fraud in the 2020 election of President Joe Biden, Stefanik is a very vocal defender of Trump, which is why she was chosen to replace Cheney, NY Daily News reported.
