Governor Greg Abbott has reappointed Weldon Riggs to the Evergreen Underground Water Conservation District, extending his term until February 1, 2029. The district is responsible for managing and protecting underground water resources in Wilson, Atascosa, Karnes, and Frio counties.
Riggs lives in the Black Hill Community in Atascosa County and works as a cattle rancher with operations in both Atascosa and Bexar counties. He is involved with several organizations, including being a member and former director of the Independent Cattlemen’s Association of Texas. Riggs is also affiliated with the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and the Texas State Teachers Association.
In addition to his professional work, Riggs serves as a committeeman for the San Antonio Livestock Exposition School Tours Committee and is construction co-chair for Christmas Village Ministries. He represents agriculture on the South Central Texas Regional Water Planning Group Region L. Riggs also volunteers with the Blackhill Volunteer Fire Department, sits on the board of the South Texas Weather Modification Association, and holds roles with the Oak Island Cemetery Association.
Riggs earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences and a Master of Education in Agriculture Education from Texas A&M University.
