The Brays Oaks Management District Business and Economic Development Committee held a meeting via Zoom video conference on October 1, 2025, at 10:00 am.
District Board and Committee members present: Sheri Cortez, Marsha Fisk, Cindy Chapman
Staff members present: Josh Hawes, Kristen Gonzales
Public present: Naomi Ostfeld, Brenda Jackson, Angelee Moody Rhyne, Gwen S.
Committee Chair Sheri Cortez called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM, and the committee meeting adjourned at 10:20 AM.
THE COMMITTEE CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING:

a. Public comments were not received.
3. Minutes of 09/03/25 B&ED Committee Meeting
a. Committee meeting minutes submitted for reference.
4. District Updates & Recommendations
a. Development Properties
i. Executive Director Hawes reported no updates.
ii. Director Cortez advised that the property on Oglethorpe and the Beltway has now busted into the sewer lines. MPT Castex-Tatum has been alerted.
iii. Director Chapman advised on vacant properties.
iv. Director Cortez advised that the tires at Sandpiper and W Bellfort have been cleaned up. She also recommended that the property owner put up a “No Trespassing” sign.
Executive Director Hawes recommended moving a game camera to this location.
Director Chapman recommended reaching out to Precinct 7 for game cameras.
Director Cortez added that Precinct 7 has an illegal dumping division and requests staff make the request.
b. Permits & Platting

a. Executive Director Hawes advised of a remodel at 6060 W. Bellfort.
b. Executive Director Hawes advised of a retail center at 10752 S. Gessner.
c. Executive Director Hawes advised of an apartment repair at 600 Westbury Square.
2. Platting
a. Executive Director Hawes advised no new platting for the month.
c. METRO
i. No updates.
d. Discuss Economic Development Initiatives
i. Executive Director Hawes plans to have a separate meeting with Director Cortez to discuss ideas.
e. Discuss Business Improvement Grants
i. Executive Director Hawes advised that Dorothy Lillig will write a story and share across social media to get the word out about the program. Director Chapman asked how the District is letting property owners know about the program. Executive Director Hawes replied that the effort has been letters and phone calls.
