Governor Greg Abbott emphasized the growing support for school choice in Texas during a media event at the Texas Capitol in Austin. The event included former Arizona Governor Doug Ducey, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, and Speaker Dustin Burrows.

"School choice is important for parents and essential for students," stated Governor Abbott. He expressed that Texas is on the verge of significant legislation, emphasizing the role of parents in making educational decisions. "We must prioritize our students. As Governor, we will ensure Texas ranks No. 1 for educating our students. That starts by passing school choice this session.”

Governor Ducey added his perspective, saying, "This is not a partisan issue, this is an American issue." He highlighted that no state as large as Texas has passed school choice yet and supported the efforts towards universal school choice. "When Texas passes this, it will change everything for every child in this state and across the nation."

Lieutenant Governor Patrick remarked on education funding levels in Texas: "Texas is funding education at one of the highest levels ever." He argued that school choice would enhance competitiveness and improve schools statewide.

Speaker Burrows noted that public education can be fully funded alongside school choice initiatives. "This is why the Texas House has been committed to passing House Bill 2 and House Bill 3 in tandem," he said, expressing eagerness to advance the legislation.

The gathering also included members of the Texas Senate Committee on Education and Texas House Committee on Public Education. Governor Abbott suggested that passing school choice would help position Texas as a leader in student education. He mentioned potential benefits such as maintaining competitiveness in industries like artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and aerospace.

Governor Abbott acknowledged the contributions of Governor Ducey, Lieutenant Governor Patrick, and Speaker Burrows in promoting parental empowerment through school choice.
