Governor Greg Abbott has made several appointments to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. Kenneth Omoruyi has been appointed, while Grant Coates, Jill Holup, Jeannette Pierro Smith, and James “Jim” Trippon have been reappointed. Their terms will expire on January 31, 2031. Jeannette Pierro Smith has also been named as the chair of the Board.
The Texas State Board of Public Accountancy is responsible for ensuring that certified public accountants in Texas possess the necessary qualifications and perform their duties competently.
Kenneth Omoruyi from Bellaire is a managing partner at CKO CPAs and Advisors and an adjunct accounting professor at Lone Star College. He is involved with several professional committees and holds degrees from the University of Benin, University of Southern California, and Harvard Kennedy School.
Grant Coates from Fort Worth serves as CEO and president of The Miles Foundation. He has extensive experience in financial roles and holds degrees from the University of North Texas and Texas Christian University.
Jill Holup from Austin is the chief operating officer and chief financial officer at CenterGate Capital. She is actively involved in various financial organizations and holds degrees from UT El Paso and UC Berkeley.
Jeannette Pierro Smith from Mission works as a partner at Carr, Riggs & Ingram, LLC. She serves on multiple boards related to accountancy education and standards. Her educational background includes a degree from the University of Houston.
James “Jim” Trippon from Houston leads JM Trippon & Company as well as Trippon Wealth Management Group. He is an author on personal finance topics with a degree in accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
These appointments await confirmation by the Senate.
