Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the Texas Music Office (TMO) and Visit Pearland will jointly host a Music Friendly Texas Community workshop on June 24 in Pearland. The event will be available both virtually and in person.
"Music is key to the Texas brand," stated Governor Abbott. He expressed gratitude to the Texas Music Office for its role in fostering partnerships and job creation across the state. According to Abbott, "The Texas music industry accounts for 196,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates over $31.7 billion in annual economic activity statewide." He emphasized collaboration with local leaders like those in Pearland to equip communities with necessary tools for success.
Gini Mascorro, TMO Community Relations and Outreach Specialist, will attend the workshop to discuss the Music Friendly Texas Community designation, its benefits, and answer questions. This program was introduced by TMO in 2016 as the first of its kind nationwide. It provides a network aimed at promoting music industry development and signals to professionals that certified communities are committed to fostering industry growth.
The workshop marks the initial step toward certification for Pearland. Upon completion, Pearland would join over 80 other cities in Texas that have received this designation.
Musicians, venues, and members of the public are invited to participate either online or in person.
