U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul, representing Texas and serving as chairman emeritus of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has expressed gratitude for the release of two Americans from Taliban captivity. Among those freed is Ryan Corbett, whose detainment had been a point of concern for McCaul and others.
McCaul stated, “I’m extremely thankful two Americans, including Ryan Corbett, have been released from Taliban captivity. Ryan is a truly good man who has dedicated his life to helping others, including many in Afghanistan. Yet the Taliban treated him like a criminal, holding him in appallingly inhumane conditions as his health declined. I am praying for a quick recovery so he can return to a full life with his wife Anna, who never stopped fighting for her husband, and their three wonderful children.”
Throughout Corbett's detention, McCaul actively advocated for his release. He led a House resolution condemning what he described as Corbett’s wrongful detainment and demanding action for his freedom. Furthermore, McCaul participated in a roundtable discussion focusing on Americans detained abroad, where Anna Corbett represented her husband.
