Governor Greg Abbott has expanded the state disaster declaration to include Edwards, Kinney, Real, and Schleicher counties following severe flooding in Texas. This brings the total number of counties under the declaration to 30. Governor Abbott also instructed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to seek additional counties for inclusion in President Donald J. Trump’s Major Disaster Declaration.
“Today, I expanded my state disaster declaration to include four additional counties,” said Governor Abbott. “This will help local officials and emergency management personnel access every available resource to support their fellow Texans in need. I also directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to work with FEMA and the Trump Administration to bring additional federal assistance to even more affected counties. Texas will continue to be relentless in our efforts to help impacted Texans and communities rebuild from these catastrophic floods.”
Further additions may be made as damage assessments continue.
The governor's request includes four counties—Guadalupe, Kimble, Menard, and McCulloch—for eligibility under FEMA Individual Assistance programs, while five others—Edwards, Lampasas, Reeves, Schleicher, and Sutton—are requested for FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
Damage assessments indicate that Guadalupe, Kimble, Menard, and McCulloch exceed federal criteria for disaster assistance. Residents can apply for aid via disasterassistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362.
Assessments also show Edwards, Lampasas, Reeves, Schleicher and Sutton surpass federal criteria for FEMA’s Public Assistance Program which aids emergency work and repairs or replaces damaged facilities.
