Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the City of Lockhart has achieved the status of a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community. This recognition comes from the Texas Music Office (TMO) after Lockhart completed a detailed certification process. The Music Friendly Texas program, initiated by TMO in 2016, aims to enhance economic development and job creation through music-related business activities in Texas cities.
Governor Abbott expressed his congratulations: “Congratulations to the City of Lockhart on earning the Music Friendly Texas Certified Community designation.” He emphasized music's importance to Texas, noting that it is deeply rooted in cultural traditions and plays a significant role in economic growth. "With support from the Texas Music Office, the Texas music industry accounts for more than 192,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generates more than $26 billion in annual economic activity statewide."
Senator Judith Zaffirini also congratulated Lockhart, stating: “This prestigious designation highlights the city’s commitment to fostering music business-related economic development.” She noted that this achievement strengthens cultural identity and opens doors for further growth.
Representative Stan Gerdes commented on how this designation boosts Lockhart's reputation as a destination for live music and tourism. "I’m proud to celebrate this milestone with the community," he said.
Lockhart Mayor Lew White highlighted local efforts: “From hosting live music events on the historic Lockhart Square to various venues with live artists, it’s clear that Lockhart is a place where music is valued.”
Local business owner Ronda Reagan remarked on how her establishment, The Pearl, has contributed to growing live music in downtown Lockhart over nine years. Steven Collins from Troubadour Image + Sound added that this milestone cements Lockhart as a hub for musicians and fans alike.
The certification ceremony will be held on January 3 during Lockhart’s First Friday event. It will be co-hosted by TMO along with local organizations such as the Lockhart Economic Development Corporation and others.
Lockhart becomes the 72nd community to receive this certification. The TMO has been supporting Texas' vibrant music industry since 1990 by fostering economic development among businesses, musicians, and communities across the state.
