U.S. Congressman Brian Babin, representing Texas's 36th district, has expressed strong opposition to a recent policy change announced by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This policy grants Temporary Protected Status and work authorization to Lebanese nationals currently residing in the United States due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Babin, along with eleven Republican colleagues from the House of Representatives, addressed their concerns in a letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In his statement, Babin criticized the decision, saying, “While Israel is suffering weekly rocket bombardments from terrorists in Lebanon, the Biden-Harris administration has not only foolishly decided to hamstring our ability to deport Lebanese aliens, including those here illegally but also offer them immigration benefits and work authorization.”

The congressman further cited security concerns related to this policy change. He referenced a recent incident involving an ISIS terrorist who was allegedly planning an Election Day attack after entering the U.S. “This White House and its Department of Homeland Security has a deeply troubling track record of allowing terrorists into our nation," Babin stated. "New designations like this only make it more difficult to remove bad actors.”
