Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Michael McCaul (R-Texas) voted to fine U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland $10,000 for every day he defies a congressional subpoena to turn over audiotapes from Special Counsel Robert Hur's investigation into President Biden’s handling of classified documents.

“As a former lawyer at the Department of Justice myself, I can tell you there is no legitimate justification for Attorney General Garland to not comply with House Republicans’ subpoena and turn over these tapes,” said Rep. McCaul. “The Biden administration and House Democrats know these tapes will only further expose the president’s abysmal cognitive state, and they are trying to cover for him. There must be consequences for Attorney General Merrick Garland’s defiance of this valid congressional subpoena.”
