Congresswoman De La Cruz Urges Mexico to Fulfill Water Deliveries in Meeting with Secretary Blinken

Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz, alongside Senators and Congressmen from Texas, raised concerns with Secretary of State Antony Blinken regarding Mexico's failure to comply with its water treaty obligations with the United States. De La Cruz emphasized the importance of Mexico fulfilling its annual water deliveries, stating, "For too long, Mexico has failed to abide by its commitment."

The recent meeting between De La Cruz and Blinken came after the passing of H.Res. 683, which supports diplomatic efforts to ensure Mexico's adherence to the 1944 water treaty. The legislation empowers the Secretary of State to utilize various diplomatic tools to enforce Mexico's compliance with the agreement.

In her discussion with Blinken, De La Cruz expressed her determination to hold Mexico accountable for its obligations under the treaty, citing water security as a critical issue for Texas. She asserted, "I will not stop fighting to make Mexico abide by its agreement and deliver the water it owes annually." De La Cruz also welcomed Secretary Blinken's engagement on the matter and urged him to utilize the full resources of the U.S. government to compel Mexico to comply with the treaty.

Sen. John Cornyn and Congressmen Tony Gonzales, Henry Cuellar, and Vincente Gonzalez from Texas also participated in the call, demonstrating a unified stance among Texan lawmakers on the issue of Mexico's delayed water deliveries.
