Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Music Office (TMO) have announced that Houston will be hosting the Fifth Annual Texas Sounds & Cities Conference from Nov. 8-9. The conference will focus on the development of the Texas music industry and the potential for certified Music Friendly Texas Communities to collaborate.

"I thank the Texas Music Office for helping communities large and small develop creative partnerships and grow new jobs," said Gov. Abbott.

The Texas music industry has seen significant growth in recent years. In 2022, with assistance from TMO, the industry created over 192,000 direct and indirect permanent jobs and generated more than $26 billion in economic activity. Gov. Abbott emphasized the importance of Music Friendly Texas Certified Communities in expanding the industry's economic impact.

The conference will feature panel discussions and presentations led by representatives from TMO, the Houston Music Advisory Board, the National Independent Venue Alliance (NIVA), and other organizations. These discussions will provide valuable knowledge and strategies for local music businesses, musicians, venues, and the music industry across the state.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner expressed his excitement about the conference, stating that it will not only benefit Houston's local music industry but also contribute to the state's growing economy. Mayor Turner highlighted Houston's global music impact and the opportunity to showcase the city's rich musical assets.

The Fifth Annual Texas Sounds & Cities Conference in Houston aims to foster collaboration and growth within the Texas music industry. It will serve as a platform for industry professionals to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and explore opportunities for economic expansion.
