Gov. Greg Abbott is encouraging high school and college students in Texas to participate in cybersecurity programs that offer scholarships worth over $20 million. The programs, CyberStart America (CSA) and Cyber FastTrack (CFT), are sponsored by the National Cyber Scholarship Foundation.
Abbott emphasized the importance of strengthening the cybersecurity workforce and talent development in Texas, especially as the technology industry continues to grow. He stated, "These immersive, online cybersecurity programs will help ensure high school and college students have the opportunity to develop crucial skills for high-demand jobs in this critical industry."
The governor praised CSA and CFT for providing pathways to a career in cybersecurity. He urged Texas students to take advantage of the opportunity to become leaders in the field and contribute to building a more secure Texas.
Interested students can now register for the programs, with student play ending on March 15, 2024. The programs are open to students in grades 9-12, and accepted participants will have access to over 200 unique security challenges to solve. As they play, students will gain cybersecurity skills and receive credentials in the field.
The collaboration between the Lone Star State and CSA began in 2020, and in 2022, the state formed the CSA Texas task force to further support cybersecurity education and opportunities for students.
By participating in CSA and CFT, Texas students have the chance to develop valuable skills in the growing field of cybersecurity and potentially secure scholarships to further their education.
