Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas has expressed his unwavering support for Israel after the country experienced a surprise attack by Palestinian militant group Hamas. In a press release on October 9th, Abbott condemned the acts of violence and offered complete support to the Israeli and Jewish communities. He stated, "I firmly denounce the act of war against Israeli citizens and Americans in Israel and support Israel’s right to defend itself from these barbaric attacks."

The attack, which took place on October 7th, has resulted in the deaths of at least 1,000 individuals, making it the deadliest assault Israel has faced in decades. Hamas militants, aided by rocket fire, infiltrated Israeli towns near the blockaded Gaza Strip. The militants killed dozens of people and abducted others, taking them into Gaza on a major Jewish holiday.

The conflict has also affected American citizens, with nine reported deaths and some individuals still missing. The U.S. Department of State confirmed these casualties, emphasizing the impact of the ongoing violence.

In response to the attacks, Gov. Abbott announced that over $4 million in additional funding from the Public Safety Office (PSO) will be allocated to enhance security for Jewish organizations, including synagogues and schools, in Texas. Abbott emphasized the importance of standing united with the Jewish community and denouncing terrorism and anti-Semitism. He stated, "Working with local partners across Texas, we are actively increasing security at Jewish and Israel-related locations such as synagogues and schools."

Abbott's affirmation of support for Israel echoes the sentiments expressed by other state and federal leaders who have condemned the Hamas attacks and voiced their solidarity with Israel. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, hoping for a resolution to the conflict and an end to the violence.
