Survivors With Voices, a national domestic violence nonprofit, will host a two-day conference in Houston on Friday, Oct. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 14, called “Divorcing Your Dysfunction.” Survivors With Voices Founder Alissa R. Jones believes the theme of “collateral damage” will resonate with attendees of the conference.

"We all have been collateral damage to our circumstances or to someone," Jones said in a press release. "We will dive into healing and overcoming what you have been collateral damage to. Every impactful speaker will assist you in your process of Divorcing Your Dysfunction, come and be impacted by each and every survivor of Survivors with Voices Foundation."

According to the press release, the conference will feature original Destiny’s Child Member LeToya Luckett as the keynote speaker, with other special guests, performances, and discussions, allowing survivors a safe space to talk about the obstacles they had to or are currently overcoming. The conference will be hosted by TV and radio personality Dr. Dawn.

This event will take place during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The founder of Survivors With Voices, Alissa R. Jones, is a survivor of domestic violence herself, which inspired her to start an organization dedicated to helping survivors of domestic violence. According to a press release, “mentally healing, spiritually healing, physically healing and emotionally healing are what guests can expect from this conference.”

The conference will start off with a Comedy Hour meet and greet at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13. On the main day of the event, Saturday, Oct. 14, things will kick off with a Voice Your Invisible Wounds day conference, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A VIP lunch will be held from noon to 1 p.m., and a purple carpet experience, hosted by blogger Nicole Rocherlyn, will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. The purple carpet event will allow guests to take pictures and get interviewed. Finally, the event will conclude with a fundraising evening gala and dinner, which starts at 7 p.m.

According to Survivors with Voices Foundation, they are a nonprofit based in Texas that helps survivors of mental and physical abuse. They host support groups around the country, providing an “open forum” for survivors and their peers. They also help with mentoring, counseling, and development of self-esteem and social skills.
