Classical Movements, a premier concert tour company for choirs and orchestras around the world, will present a free performance by the Emmy Award-winning and Grammy-nominated Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale of Philadelphia at 7 p.m. on Aug. 1 at First Presbyterian Church of Houston. The concert is part of Classical Movements’ first concert tour of Texas, Alabama and parts of Acadia in Louisiana, from July 31 to Aug. 9..

“Led by maestro, Jeffrey R. Smith, PBCC’s Artistic Director and Conductor, the 65-member choir will perform an expertly curated program of American music styles including ragtime, blues, country, soul, classical, spirituals, and more,” Classical Movements said in a press release.

Classical Movements arranges more than 60 tours annually, totaling approximately 200 concerts per season, its website said. For more than 25 years, its mission has been to create cultural experiences through its musical performances in 145 countries. The company has commissioned more than 70 works from Grammy-, Oscar- and Pulitzer Prize-winning composers through its new music program started by Eric Daniel Helms.

The Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale is a musical group known for their advanced musicianship and interpretive skills, the press release said. The group was established in 1968 and has been led by Jeffrey R. Smith since 2004. It has gained a global following by representing both Philadelphia and the U.S. during its concert tours throughout the world, and it has achieved various milestones such as recording with orchestras and soloists like Luciano Pavarotti. It has also made appearances on TV shows such as "Good Morning America," "Saturday Night Live" and "The Today Show."

The Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale is the founding chorus of the Philadelphia Boys and Girls Choirs, a music education program that annually reaches more than 300 singers through the Philadelphia Boys Choir, the Philadelphia Girls Choir and the Philadelphia Vocal Conservatory. Additionally, they have collaborated with various ensembles including the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Philly POPS, the Philadelphia Ballet, Opera Philadelphia, the Curtis Institute, the Academy of Vocal Arts, the Mendelssohn Chorus, Pig Iron Theater, Vox Ama Deus and the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia.
