Houston, Texas- Houston is known worldwide for our rich culture in music, cars, arts, food and more. June 27th is a day that originated from the Screwed Up Click (SUC) freestyle that featured Original SUC Members, Big Moe, Bird, Demo, Key-C, Yungstar, Big Pokey, Haircut Joe & K-Luv. The freestyle took place at the legendary DJ Screw’s house in 1996. The song became a staple in the city for celebrating Houston. It has been sampled by Drake on his November 18th song. With so much history, National DJ & Radio-Personality Michele Mcknight teamed up with Bar 5015, Jim Beam, Vinny Drinks, Calypso Concierge, The Vibe Houston (KTSU 90.9 FM), Trill on Wheels, Polaris Slingshot, Mostyn Law Firm, 1-800-TruckWreck & Lemon-Lime Light Media to curate “For The Love of Screw-- Celebrating The Culture” which will take place on June 27th at Bar 5015. The family-friendly event will kick off at 1:00 PM and will consist of local food trucks, vendors, Slab cars, music, art from various artists, and more. After 6:00 PM, all guests must be at least 25 to enter as the event will celebrate all things music consisting of a DJ set paying homage to various DJ’s, a live performance by Yungstar, an award tribute to Houston legends presented by Amber Mostyn with Mostyn law and 1-800-Truck-Wreck, and a rap cypher with celebrity judges Killa Kyleon, D- Reck of Wreckshop Records, Madd Hatta, & Queendom. Popular Houston Podcaster, Donnie Houston will host a special edition of Slab Karaoke where attendees will have the opportunity to sing their favorite Houston inspired song.
In honor of Celebrating The Culture, the event’s media partner KTSU 90.0 FM/ The Vibe Houston will have a June 27th takeover from 9am-9pm by playing all of the Screwed Up Click’s music. “As a person that’s a part of the Houston entertainment scene, I wanted to curate a memorable experience that represents Houston’s rich culture and pays homage to those that have made an impact nationwide. My goal is to make this an annual event and continue to expand.” - Says DJ Michele McKnight.
The event’s featured Artists will include award winning Fine Art painter Lauren Luna. She is a freelance artist and an art professor at Lone Star and San Jacinto Colleges, and Co-Founder of the D.R.E.A.M Affect Foundation, a non-profit organization that awards scholarships to minority art students pursuing Fine Arts, and grants for emerging artists to show their award-winning work.
