The Houston Texans are inviting fans to the Miller Outdoor Theatre at Hermann Park for its National Football League (NFL) Draft Party on Thursday.
It’s the second consecutive year in which the Texans are to hold the event at the century-old venue after nearly two decades of hosting fans at NRG Stadium.
"With the excitement surrounding this year's draft, we know it will be the premier destination for all Texans fans as we welcome new players to H-Town together,” team president Greg Grissom said in a press release.
In their first and only season under former head coach Lovie Smith, the Texans compiled a 3-13-1 record, with the first tie in franchise history having occurred in the campaign opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
Their season-ending victory over the Colts placed them to pick second behind the Chicago Bears, who have since sent the No. 1 pick to the Carolina Panthers.
The upcoming draft will be DeMeco Ryans’ first as head coach – and barring any trades – he’ll have two picks to work with in the first round.
While the draft party is slated to start at 7 p.m., the release said, fans will be able to access seating and participate in activities in the Ford Fan Fest on-site starting at 4 p.m.
The team said that the party will include live Zoom calls from the selected players, special appearances by current Texans players, including last year’s rookie class, and a multitude of food and beverage options.
Houston’s hip-hop scene will be well represented with Slim Thug, Lil' Keke and Z-Ro slated to perform and Bun B and Paul Wall gracing the festivities.
A merchandise truck will sell the team’s draft hat for this year, the same one the second and 12th selections will put on when they go to the stage to shake hands with Commissioner Roger Goodell.
Tickets can be obtained by visiting the event’s website.
