Houston-based artist Joshua Caleb's collection called "Food for Thought" will be displayed at Houston's Box 13 ArtSpace, 6700 Harrisburg, through the middle of April.

The exhibit is the debut of this particular collection, which examines present-day society and culture through the eyes of a Black American, according to Box 13 ArtSpace's website

“My work is heavily influenced by New York graffiti writers and street artists,” Caleb said in a statement. “I’m drawn to the attitude and passion that encompasses it. My work focuses on the meaning of authenticity projected through the lens of race, gender and culture.”

Caleb was born in New York and was mentored by Jacqueline Rogers, an award-winning children's book illustrator, before he earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College. According to his biography on Box 13's website, he has also had collaborative deals with big companies, including Lamborghini, Coach, Monster Energy and Juneshine Beverage Co.

Caleb has done a number of solo shows across the country including "Eden" at New York's Thompson Giroux Gallery in 2021, and others in Houston like "Me" in 2018, "New Bones" and "Ascend" in 2021, and was part of a group exhibition called "Happier Times" in 2020, according to the Thompson Giroux Gallery website.

According to the gallery's website, both “Ascend” and “Eden” were sold out shows. His work has been collected beyond U.S. borders and a few of his pieces have been placed in permanent collections.

The gallery also noted that Caleb has been featured in publications and news sites such as Voyage Magazine, Yahoo News, The Houston Chronicle and Houstonia Magazine.

According to its website, Box 13 is “an artist-run nonprofit committed to supporting the creation and advancement of experimental contemporary arts in Houston. The organization holds affordable studios for emerging and established artists, four exhibition spaces and an outdoor mural wall. In addition to providing space for artists to fulfill their visions, BOX13 promotes and encourages dialogue on current trends in the arts.”

This exhibit is open to the public from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays through April 15.
