A suburban Houston man has amassed a vast collection of video games that has earned him the attention of the people responsible for Guinness World Records, Houston FOX affiliate KRIV reported.
According to the station, Richmond resident Antonio Romero Monteiro’s collection of more than 24,000 video games are a Guinness World Record five-fold.
KRIV reported that his hobby can fetch him four more Guinness distinctions.
Per KRIV, Monteiro started collecting video games at the age of 10, and it took at least a quarter century to amass his enviable haul.
He’s been documented to be the person with the most Xbox items, the most Sega items, the most Nintendo items, and the most PlayStation items in the world.
Simply put, he’s arguably living out a gamer’s fantasy.
Monteiro told KRIV that he initially wanted his collection to focus on some of the games he played as a young boy.
“Slowly it expanded to include games I always wanted to play, but hadn’t had the opportunity to, and eventually expanded to completing collections for individual systems," he said, the station reported.
A Guinness news release added that the 45-year-old is known to master the hardest levels of any video game.
The monetary value of his collection bears an estimated worth of a little over $2 million, the release said.
While video games are an escape from the hubbub of life for most people, it’s more than that for Monteiro.
"I see video games as a form of art, where creativity and storytelling transcend to limitless possibilities,” he said, according to Guinness. "Some of my most precious memories include video games and their experiences with family and friends."
