Family, friends and supporters of a 21-year-old Texas State University student who went missing two years ago as he was going home to Missouri City for the holidays held a vigil in the San Antonio-area community where his vehicle was discovered, Houston CBS affiliate KHOU reported.
Jason Landry was allegedly driving through Luling when he disappeared on Dec. 13, 2020.
Search efforts since then have been unsuccessful, but the vigil intended to remind the public he’s still out there and his family continues to grapple with what an aunt of his said is “so many unknowns,” KHOU reported.
Attendees tightly held candles and recited prayers for Landry near the spot where his car purportedly crashed.
“Lord, we just ask that you lead us to Jason,” one person said, according to KHOU.
The station reported that the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) heads an investigation into the disappearance, with authorities saying there’s no evidence of foul play.
KHOU reported that Donna Egenolf hopes more information in relation to her nephew would emerge.
“Is he alive somewhere? We don’t expect that, but if he is, we want to know, and if he has passed, what happened to him, we just want answers," Egenolf said in the report.
The station reported that Landry’s family has doubled the award for information on his whereabouts.
San Antonio NBC affiliate WOAI reported that Landry’s parents didn’t attend the vigil, but instead, spent the somber anniversary with family.
“We think about him daily, we miss him and we just still want answers and hopefully someone somewhere will know something and share," Egenolf said, according to WOAI.
KHOU reported that the Texas Attorney General’s Cold Case Unit is also working on the case.
