Houston rapper Trae tha Truth will host an event for children with special needs and their families in Downtown Houston on Saturday, per a report from Houston NBC affiliate KPRC

KPRC reported that the first-ever Special Needs Day is slated to be held in Hallway C at the George R. Brown Convention Center from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The 42-year-old rapper and his foundation, U’Neek & Gifted, are hosting Special Needs Day with local nonprofit organization Angel By Nature and the City of Houston, per his Instagram page.

Trae tha Truth, whose real name is Frazier Othel Thompson III, told KPRC that he and his team have been preparing for the event, adding it’ll feature multiple fun-filled activities.

According to the station, he has a teenage son, D’Neeko, who was born with a Chromosome 13 abnormality.

Trae tha Truth told KPRC that he knows that plight of families with a special needs child all too well.

His advice to them is to know that they’re not alone.

“There are more people that really can relate to your situation than you know,” the rapper said, per the station. “When I opened the door for people to understand about my son, other entertainers started speaking on their kids.”

His Instagram post said that the event will have free specialized haircuts, nail and face paintings, and sensory-conscious music in addition to a slew of fun activities.

KPRC reported that there will also be foreign vehicles and SLAB’s, or slow, loud and banging cars in the Bayou City vernacular, for kids and their families to take pictures with.

Organizers recommend RSVPs, but the public is welcome to attend, the station reported.
