Takeoff, a member of the chart-topping Georgia-based rap group Migos, died in a fatal shooting in downtown Houston on Tuesday, according to reports from Houston-based media outlets.
A representative confirmed the passing of the 28-year-old, whose real name was Kirshnik Khari Ball, to The Associated Press (AP), Houston CBS affiliate KHOU reported.
The representative spoke to the media anonymously as they’re not authorized to speak publicly, the station reported.
Per KHOU, the Houston Police Department (HPD) said that Takeoff and Quavo, Migos’ lead rapper, attended a private party at 810 Billiards & Bowling at the GreenStreet complex before the shooting in question.
Investigators said that they initially received a report of a Black man in his late twenties having been shot.
The incident allegedly occurred on a balcony outside of the venue at San Jacinto and Dallas Streets a little after 2:30 a.m.
Houston NBC affiliate KPRC reported that police were summoned to the scene and discovered a large crowd and the shooting victim himself.
The station reported that two other people were purportedly shot with their statuses unknown.
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) has opened an investigation into 810 Billiards & Bowling, according to KPRC.
An Associated Press article that was ran by Houston ABC affiliate KTRK reported that the rapper’s death sent shockwaves among peers and fans alike.
Fan Thomas Moreno told the AP he once met Takeoff when the latter visited Houston, describing him as "a real nice guy."
"I feel it's just another good person gone too soon," Moreno said, the AP reported. "This happens every day but it hurts even more when it's somebody so talented and so young."
Takeoff and Quavo formed Migos with fellow rapper and relative Offset in 2008.
The Grammy Award nominated trio is best known for their 2016 No. 1 hit, “Bad and Boujee.”
As of press time, no arrests were made.
