The Brays Oaks Management District Business and Economic Development Committee held a meeting via Zoom video conference on March 02, 2022, at 10:00am.

District Board and Committee members present: Sheri Cortez, Cindy Chapman, Brandon Herndon Staff members present: Xavier Herrera, Cosme Garcia, Alan Bernstein

Public present: Cynthia Arellano - SNR, Carolina V. Gambrel – SNR , Marcy Williams, Brenda Jackson, Ben Brewer – BUMC, Sydney Clayborn - SNR

Committee Chair Sheri Cortez called the meeting to order at 10:03 AM, and the committee meeting adjourned at 10:42 AM.

2. Public Comment

a. Director Chapman reminded the committee and public of the Brays Oaks Trail ribbon cutting to take place 3/3/2022 @ 10AM.

4. District Updates & Recommendations

a. Development Properties

i. Director Chapman reported undeveloped land near W. Bellfort next to Westbury Square. Information was sent to Director Cortez. Director Cortez to investigate further and reach out to developer when appropriate.

ii. Director Cortez reports plat near W. Airport where the new Starbucks is going has stalled due to curb cut issue. Working with Councilwoman Castex-Tetum to resolve.

b. Branding – SNR Creative

i. Ms. Gambrel of SNR Creative gave recommendation presentation. Reviewed: anchor message, campaign #1, future campaign ideas, creative concept #2. Reviewed colors / imagery incorporated into the graphics. Reviewed: campaign timelines, social media, email, website, one-pager, approvals, details available in backup materials. Campaign #1: March 2022 – July 2022. Campaign #2: July 2022 – September 2022.

ii. Ms. Arellano of SNR Creative presented social media recommendations. Cadence: 4x/week on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Content: presented on Wednesday with edits due by Friday EOD.

1. Director Cortez recommends replacing Hager Park with Glenshire Park in one of the campaign concepts.

2. Director Herndon recommends interactive / video posts and would like the ability to review posts on demand or via private YouTube link.

3. Director Chapman recommends exploring transitioning to alternate colors after branding effort has been approved to avoid delay.

iii. Ms. Clayborn of SNR Creative presented email recommendations. Newsletter: Third Thursday of each month. Events email: Sent every Monday with a deadline for submission on Thursday and reviewed sample templates. A link will be provided to review the newsletters.

1. Director Cortez inquired about the colors used in the campaign and has requested additional color palettes to choose from. Ms. Gambrel will work on the request.

2. Director Herndon requested a mechanism to allow users to add events to their calendar.

iv. Ms. Gambrel presented website, one-pager, and next steps recommendations. Website: changes either have been made or are in the process of being made. One Page: fast facts draft for print and digital are being worked on. Next Steps: approvals for social media and newsletters/email will go through Alan Bernstein and ED Herrera and Cosme Garcia will be cc’d.

c. Permits & Platting

i. Herrera noted that for the month of February the following permits & plats were submitted:

1. Building permits

a. Total 27 - 20 residential and 7 commercial. Detailed report available in backup material.

2. Plats

a. Total of 6 plats on February report. 2 submitted in the month of February. Detailed report available in backup material.

d. Business PIP

i. Director Cortez reports that business PIP has been rescheduled because of March on Crime events. Business PIP should resume in the month of April. HPD will take the lead on messaging, BOMD to do the flyer.

e. Business Incentives Program

i. Director Cortez asked for status regarding the Business Incentives Program.

Executive Director Herrera reported BOMD staff continue to work to identify businesses that may benefit from the program, continuing to reach out to Car Wash identified by committee, however, ED Herrera asked the community / committee members to submit potential businesses as well. Director Cortez mentioned that potential businesses could be in need of replanting after the freeze or publicity.
