The lone fatality in a Clear Lake Shores police shooting has been identified.
According to authorities, 46-year-old William Wayne Weldon engaged in a four-hour standoff with law enforcement on the morning of March 9 and was ultimately gunned down when he pointed a weapon at officers.
The Galveston County Daily News reported that Weldon was apparently the homeowner of the residence in the 900 block of Grove Road where police were summoned.
Weldon was involved in a domestic disturbance just before dawn, authorities said.
An officer spoke to Weldon, but the suspect moved inward toward his house.
Weldon allegedly shot at the officer, who wasn't hit but injured his shoulder as he dove off the porch to escape the gunfire.
“He heard the shots being fired," Clear Lake Shores Police Chief Tracy Keele told the Galveston County Daily News. "There was what appeared to be rounds coming through the wall."
Later that morning, the SWAT team shot gas canisters into the residence, prompting the suspect to go outside.
Shotgun in hand, the publication reported, Weldon pointed the firearm at police only to get shot.
Officers shot Weldon multiple times.
As of March 13, authorities haven't identified the officers who shot the suspect, the Galveston County Daily News reported.
The Galveston County Sheriff's Office is heading the investigation.
