The Woodlands Township Board of Directors has named Monique Sharp president and general manager of the master-planned community 30 miles north of Houston.
Community Impact Newspaper reported that Sharp has been The Woodlands' president and general manager in an interim capacity since early January.
With almost 30 years of service to the township, she was previously the assistant general manager for finance and administration.
“President Sharp has been a steadfast leader within the Township for the past 29 years," The Woodlands Township board chairman Gordy Bunch told the publication. "Her efforts have led our hometown to the highest financial ratings, lowest historical debt and lowest tax rates since the inception of our community. We are blessed to have Monique help lead our hometown going forward and we are proud to be able to announce her as our new president and general manager."
The township in a news release said that Sharp is its first female president and general manager.
She succeeds Jeff Jones, whom the board named to the same position in 2020 in response to the retirement of Don Norrell.
Helming The Woodlands' finance team, Sharp was instrumental in earning the township accolades for its fiscal practices, as well as a bond rating of AA+, the release said.
As president and general manager, Sharp reports to the board and is responsible for coordinating, directing and managing a wide range of activities for the township, including but not limited to capital projects, economic development programs and law enforcement, according to her Woodlands executive team profile.
She assumes the office full-time about three months after the township's residents voted against a measure that would've led toward incorporation as a city.
