Greater Houston Port Bureau 'honored' to name Ric Campo as 2022 Maritime Leader of the Year

The Greater Houston Port Bureau recently named chairman of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority Ric Campo the 2022 Maritime Leader of the Year.

According to a press release, Campo earned the honor for his efforts of improving the greater Houston port region. In his role as chairman, Campo has worked with industry and the community to advance Houston Ship Channel and port improvements, balancing economic growth and environmentally sustainable initiatives. He will be honored at the Port Bureau’s Annual Maritime Dinner on Aug. 20, 2022.

"The Port Bureau is honored to name Ric Campo as the 2022 Maritime Leader of the Year," Bernt Netland said, according to the press release. "Chairman Campo is dedicated to working together to improve the greater Houston port region, and he has become a focal point for others to become involved."

The City of Houston and Harris County Commissioners Court appointed Campo as chairman of the Port Commission in January 2019. Campo is also chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Camden Property Trust, positions he has held since May 1993.

Campo also sits on the board of directors of several organizations in the Houston area including Central Houston, Inc., the Greater Houston Partnership, the Houston First Corporation and was also was a previous chairman of the Houston Super Bowl LI Host Committee.

Overseeing eight public wharves and terminals along the Houston Ship Channel, Port Houston is the advocate and a strategic leader of the channel.
