'Our hearts are heavy and filled with sadness': Harris County sheriff mourns loss of office deputy

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez mourned the death of Office Deputy Amanda Crowder recently after her apparent suicide following an argument with her boyfriend the day prior.

On Jan. 17, Deputy Crowder allegedly shot herself to death after an argument with her boyfriend outside of a bar, according to Click2Houston. Police records show that the shooting occurred around 12:45 a.m. the morning of Martin Luther King Jr. Day near a local bar called the Kung Fu Saloon. According to police, the couple supposedly got into a verbal altercation following their departure from the bar in a truck.

"With heavy hearts we mourn the loss of HCSO Deputy Amanda Crowder," said Gonzalez in a tweet. "We continue to pray for the family, friends and teammates impacted by the untimely loss of a dedicated public servant, Deputy Crowder served our agency since 2014."

The woman was identified as the 33-year-old Crowder. The gunshot wound was then assessed as self-inflicted. Crowder's boyfriend, reportedly a Houston firefighter, proceeded to seek out medical attention at the nearest Houston Fire Department - Station 6 on 3402 Washington Ave. down the street from the bar, according to Click2Houston.

"Our hearts are heavy and filled with sadness over the death of HCSO Deputy Amanda Crowder (33)," Gonzalez announced in a tweet the afternoon after Crowder's death. "Please continue to keep the HCSO, the family and friends of Deputy Crowder in your prayers."

Crowder was then taken from the Fire Department to the hospital where she was hospitalized and eventually succumbed to her injuries, according to Gonzalez. The Houston Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the situation to better understand what events led to Crowder's death, according to Click2Houston.
