'She stood out': Cracker Barrel manager shot, killed on the job

Robin Baucom, a 59-year-old Cracker Barrel manager, was shot and killed while on the job on the morning of Jan. 15. 

According to reports from authorities, Baucom was shot and killed during an attempted robbery attempt at the Cracker Barrel in the 14800 block of the North Freeway near Airtex. The incident reportedly occurred at 6:15 a.m.

"It didn't matter who you were, she made sure you were taken care of," Angela Richmond said. "She stood out. Not only that, she remembered your name."

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on his Twitter account that a Dodge Charger with two men in it pulled up to the Cracker Barrel restaurant, and the passenger asked a female employee waiting to be let inside if they were open. Shortly thereafter, Baucom attempted to interfere when she was shot was in the chest. Baucom worked at the restaurant for longer than three decades. The man who shot her had been sitting in the passenger seat of the car, according to a report from ABC 13. 

An attempted theft of a purse also occurred concurrently with the shooting. Her family said that she considered it to be a second home to her. A sister of Baucom's said she "was just trying to go to work to make a living." Her family members identified her following her death, according to a report from ABC 13.

Baucom died despite surgery in an attempt to save her life, according to ABC 13. Family members who survive Baucom include a husband, three children as well as grandchildren. Her family believes she died as a hero. The gunman escaped the scene in a metallic gray Charger from 2018 or newer and is currently being hunted by police.
