Houston City Councilwoman Abbie Kamin took to social media in congratulating her once boss, former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu's appointment to the Biden administration.
Landrieu was appointed on Sunday, Nov. 14 by President Joe Biden to be the new senior advisor to the president for infrastructure coordination, according to Axios.
"Congrats to my former boss, Mayor @MitchLandrieu," Kamin, Landrieu's former protégée, wrote in a tweet.
Landrieu also took to social media in sharing the announcement of his new position.
"So thankful to @POTUS and honored to be tasked with this important work. Lots of work ahead," Landrieu wrote in a tweet.
Landrieu's appointment came prior to Biden signing into law a $1 trillion infrastructure package. According to a press release from the White House, his new role will include "coordinating for implementation of this historic bipartisan infrastructure law" and overseeing the "most significant and comprehensive investments in American infrastructure in generations."
“I am thankful to the president and honored to be tasked with coordinating the largest infrastructure investment in generations,” Landrieu said in the White House press release. “Our work will require strong partnerships across the government and with state and local leaders, business and labor to create good-paying jobs and rebuild America for the middle class. We will also ensure these major investments achieve the president’s goals of combating climate change and advancing equity.”
Landrieu, who was also a former congressman and lieutenant governor, will monitor expenditures related to funds earmarked for upgrading roads, bridges, rail and high-speed internet, among other responsibilities, according to Axios.
Landrieu's role following New Orleans' recovery from Hurricane Katrina was also highlighted in the press release, stating that Landrieu "hit the ground running, fast-tracking over 100 projects and securing billions in federal funding for roads, schools, hospitals, parks and critical infrastructure, turning New Orleans into one of America’s great comeback stories."
According to the release, Landrieu has also chaired the U.S. Conference of Mayors and is known nationally for helping to bring "communities together and making racial equality a chief priority."
