Houston is a popular settling place for Californians after moving to the state of Texas.
According to a new study by StorageCafé, Californians have a pretty clear preference when selecting a city after they decide to move to Texas.
More than 8,400 people relocated to Harris County in 2019, the study shows. That being said, Harris County was the only Houston-area county to make the top 10 list. While popular, combining the counties for other metro areas shows greater numbers.
For example, combing Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton counties shows nearly 24,000 Californians that moved to the area. The Travis Williamson-Bell region stretching from Austin to Temple also attracted 11,329 transplants, according to Houston.org, while 698 Californians moved in from Riverside County. The No. 1 source for people looking to move to Harris County from California is Los Angeles County. Los Angeles is also the No. 1 source for Californians looking to move to Texas as a whole.
San Diego County and Riverside County, respectively, were the next highest sources for those moving to Harris County. Homes in Harris County are around 57% cheaper than the homes in Los Angeles County while simultaneously offering more living space on average. In terms of specific routes for transplants, San Diego to Houston ranked No. 13, according to Houston.org.
